To celebrate the launch of Grampians Wedding Directory, we’re giving away a $200 voucher courtesy of event planner extraordinaire Danielle Ryan from Events to Remember in Ararat.

The voucher entitles one recently engaged couple to a wedding planning session with Danielle, or it can be put towards one of Danielle’s wedding planning packages. The voucher must be redeemed before January 15, 2012.

Simply email you and your partner’s name, where you’re from, mobile phone number and wedding date to beth@grampiansweddingdirectory.com.au before 5pm, Friday, July 20.

The winner will be drawn at random and contacted directly. Winners can’t be shy – we’d like to promote their love story on the GWD and Events to Remember websites.

Good luck!!

Ararat wedding and events planner Danielle Ryan from Events to Remember reveals her top tips for planning your wedding day:

1. Make a list of what is important to you and your fiance and use this to guide your decision making. Some couples feel that fine food is a priority, whereas others prefer to place emphasis on entertainment.

2.Set a budget and STICK to it. Invest wisely by hiring professionals for the things most important to you (eg photos) and DIY the smaller details (eg invitations).

3. Learn to say “no” (politely). Whether it’s a relative insisting you wear their multi-layered taffeta wedding dress from the 80s, your mum insisting that those seven great aunts who you’ve never met must be on the invite list, or a supplier trying to upsell you something you don’t really need; sometimes you need to politely, but firmly say “no”. While the advice and assistance of others can be valuable, it is important not to be pushed into something you aren’t happy with.

Yvette and Kriss of Halls Gap are engaged!

Kriss popped the question to Yvette last weekend after she’d just endured over 50 hours of travel from South America to Melbourne! Kriss was disguised in a cow suit and approached Yvette at the airport to do a ‘survey about live cow export’. She wasn’t in the mood for a survey, but felt sorry for the fellow! After a long list of questions, Yvette’s patience was just about to run out when Kriss revealed his true self – complete with beautiful ring!

Yvette and Kriss met whilst studying at Charles Sturt University in 2003. Kriss was studying Ecotourism and Yvette a double degree in Ecotourism and Parks. They are both currently trip leaders for Antipodeans Abroad; taking school groups on overseas community projects and leadership trips to developing countries. They both love the outdoors, so living in the Grampians suits them to the ground. They are very passionate about the beautiful, natural aspects of the region and look forward to planning a winter wedding here sometime in the future.

“The Grampians are stunning and Halls Gap is beautiful in winter,” Yvette said. “It’s my favourite time of year. There is a sense of quiet and calm throughout the place and there is nothing better than snuggling up in front of the fire with a glass of red wine – I love it.”

If you’re looking for a baby-sitter when attending a Grampians wedding, Yvette is the one to contact (in between overseas trips of course!). Please contact us for Yvette’s details.

Around 300 bridal couples-to-be and their family and friends attended the innaugural Seppelt Wedding Expo in Great Western last weekend to check out what’s on offer from the region’s wedding industry. The event also showcased Seppelt as a beautiful wedding ceremony and reception destination. Exhibitors were set up in the 1892 cellar reception space, the lawn area was set up for a ceremony and the historic Vinelodge homestead was open for inspection, complete with Dave and Parso’s band playing in the ballroom! The ‘Win a Wedding Planner’ competition was won by Stephanie Winfield and Patrick Hall, who will be assisted with their wedding planning by Danielle Ryan at Events to Remember of Ararat.
